Using Graphite Permanent Molds (GPM) Forest City Castings provides high quality aluminum and zinc castings. They provide a casting built to print including exterior surface finish and assembly.
They eliminate the need to manage multiple suppliers/subcontractors. With their in-house capabilities, they are able to provide the following services all under one roof: Mold Design, Mold Making, Casting, High Precision Machining, Cosmetic Finishing, Clear Chromate and Assembly.
Forest City Casting’s in-house foundry uses custom presses and controls designed and built in their facility. This allows them to experiment with new techniques – keeping them one level above their competitors. Their foundry casts primarily in A356.2 and ZA-12 alloys. Using gravity pour, they hand ladle the molten alloy into the graphite mold, producing less turbulence and decreasing the amount of porosity.
A356.2 has great heat transfer properties. Once heat treated, it has very similar characteristics to A380 die cast alloys. ZA-12’s strength and bearing properties can eliminate bushings, wear inserts and hard coat processing.
With Forest City Castings’s focus on our customers’ needs and ability to reduce lead times, they provide complete machining capabilities.
Their American made HAAS Machining Centers are equipped with 4 axis drives. This allows them to machine whole castings without removing them from the datum, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
With travels of 60″, 30″, 35″ xyz, they can machine any casting they produce. With the increasing demand for tighter tolerances they have two Makino machines. A PS95 with 4th axis and A51 Horizontal. These machines will allow them to continue to meet the demands of their customers.
