Castings and Forgings
Castings
Castings is a manufacturing process in which a hot, liquified material (usually metal) is poured into a mold and then allowed to solidify. There are several different types of casting, however, our focus is on what is known as investment casting.
Investment casting, while based on an ancient process, is as modern as they come. Using quality machinery, investment casting creates a high quality mold that allows businesses to replicate parts with high precision.
Advantages include:
- Ability to replicate extremely intricate parts
- Ability to cast in a variety of metals
- Excellent surface finish
- High dimensional accuracy
- and more!
Forgings
Forging, like casting, is the process of heating, deforming and finishing a piece of metal. Forgings are made by forcing materials into customized shapes either by the force of a falling ram upon an anvil or by a die press enclosing a piece of metal and squeeze-forming the part.
There are several advantages to using the forging process as opposed to casting. Such advantages include:
- Stronger more durable parts
- Less costly over time
- Better dimensional stability
- Greater predictability leading to tighter control of production
